Kevin E. Childress

Kevin received his undergraduate degree in Business Management from Austin Peay State University in 1991 and received a law degree from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville in 1994. While in law school, he was selected to be a member of the moot court debate team.    His career beganas a Public Defender.  He then entered private practice in 1997 as a general practitioner with the late J.C. McLin. Upon McLin being appointed as a Judge in 2000, Kevin established his own practice. However, he continued to work with Judge McLin on community development issues which included the establishment of a non-profit organization to support ex-felons in obtaining employment and regaining their citizenship rights, including the right to vote.

For almost 20 years Kevin's practice has focused primarily on probate matters involving estate and trust administration, conservatorships, guardianships, as well as litigation in those areas. My practice also includes estate planning, which involves the drafting of wills, trusts and other related documents.

Attorney Childress is also outside counsel for a major local hospital and also represents several local and out-of-state law firms on probate-related matters. He frequently serves as Guardian ad Litem, Attorney ad Litem, Special Master and Personal Representative in Estate and Conservatorship matter before the Probate Courts. He also sits as a Substitute Judge in the Shelby County Probate Courts and is a speaker or panelist at various probate-related events. He also served on the committee responsible for the review and redrafting of the Shelby County Probate Court Local Rules. Attorney Childress is also a part-time Delinquent Tax Attorney for the Shelby County Trustee’s Office.
